Newcastle Grammar School hosted an RS Zoom Postcard on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, with the theme “Headlines and Hoaxes: How do we find real news in today’s world?”

This postcard was open to students aged 13-15 years.

The VHS delegates were:

2.  Avnoor – Class 10

3.  Saher Yadav- Class 10

4.  Raihat Kaur Brar- Class 10

5.  Anahita Bansal- Class 9-IG

6.  Bani Kaur Dhillon- Class 9-IG

Adult delegate- Ms Jaspal Mann

This Zoom postcard brought together around 110 participants from 17 schools in 4 countries (Australia, Bangladesh, India, and UAE). As part of the event, the hosts asked the participants to come prepared to discuss how they consume news and use social media. The experience proved to be enriching for the VHS team.

Student Reflections:

The VHS delegates reflected on how to question information, verify sources, and appreciate perspectives different from their own.

  • Interactive activities and Baraza sessions made discussions personal and meaningful.
  • The session increased their awareness of misinformation, AI-generated content, and the importance of being responsible about what they consume and share online.
  • They learnt that students across the world face similar challenges of clickbait and unverified news and felt better equipped to navigate social media responsibly.
  • The discussion highlighted how older people can be vulnerable to online hoaxes and how to help them identify unreliable sources and manipulated content.
  •  Interacting with students from different schools and countries helped them gain confidence in expressing their views, listening to others, and understanding media literacy.

It was indeed a golden opportunity and a worthwhile learning experience for the ‘VHS Team’.
