On 18 September 2026, Vivek High School, Chandigarh, hosted a Professional Development Workshop on IGCSE English for teachers from Vivek High School and several Cambridge schools across the Tricity. The session was facilitated by Ms Sinjini Dutta, an English education expert with over 20 years of experience working with Cambridge. The workshop was organised through the efforts of Ms Prabhjot from Cambridge.

The workshop aimed to deepen teachers’ understanding of effective teaching and learning practices within the Cambridge IGCSE English framework. Discussions centred on designing purposeful lessons, framing clear learning intentions and objectives, and using assessment strategies to enhance student learning and progress.

A key focus of the session was the role of learning intentions, learning objectives, and success criteria in creating clarity for students and promoting ownership of learning. Teachers also explored the significance of activating prior knowledge and engaging learners through the ABC classroom routine: Activity, Building, and Consolidate.

Ms Dutta highlighted the value of the Spiral Curriculum, where concepts and skills are revisited over time to strengthen understanding and support long-term learning. Another important area of discussion was Assessment for Learning (AfL) and Assessment of Learning (AoL), with emphasis on using assessment evidence to identify learning gaps, provide meaningful feedback, and guide future teaching.

The workshop served as a valuable platform for professional reflection, collaborative learning, and the exchange of best practices among educators. The active participation of teachers from various Cambridge schools enriched the discussions and reinforced the shared commitment to excellence in English language teaching.
